Mario Kart World review – Dull open world but racing has never been better - Dexerto

Dexerto - "It’s such a shame that the key selling point of the Mario Kart Switch 2 game, its open world, falls a bit flat because pretty much everything else is so, so good. Ok, the lack of kart customization bothers me a little, but with a crazier cast of characters, fun items, and incredibly imaginative tracks, the racing is as good as it has ever been."

I've spent the last few days playing it a lot. My biggest issue is, I was an inward drifter and they got rid of it, for no real reason at all. And the drifting feels unsatisfying, clunkier and more floaty compared to 8 for me personally, it doesn't feel as tight and responsive. I've gotten more used to it and I am enjoying it, but Mario Kart 8 is just more fun to play imo.

Overall I'm happy with the track design, but some tracks are bit too wide and bland, I miss the tighter corridors and more compact tracks. All in all I agree with the 8/10, but Mario Kart 8 remains by far the definitive mario kart experience for me, they would have to bring back inward drifting and tighten up the overall vehicle and drift handling compared to 8 for me personally, but I doubt nintendo will do that. I agree with the 8/10 score, maybe a 7.5.

I agree with the score but it beats MK8 in every single way. Realistically MK is undeniably an over rated series but this is the best one yet since the original snes.

… the drifting in MK World is identical to MK8 though so I have no idea what you mean there.

I'm finding they have changed turning circles and the weight of the characters have a direct impact to kart handling which i didn't feel so much in mk8.

I'm still getting to grips with it. Its certainly different

My main issue with track design is in the grandprix you start basically where the last track ended sometimes so there feels like there is less variety at times i also feel like the worlds colours don't pop as much making the world seem but more bland as we switch from pre defined lighting to day night cycles
