I think it's best to look forward not backwards when it comes to the 3D Mario games

Super Mario Galaxy 2 happened within the same gen and because they had a lot of left over content

If we got Super Mario Odyssey 2 this gen then fair enough but I think with a new generation coming up it's time to push Mario into a new adventure altogether.

Five Key Reveals and Releases That Will Define Nintendo's 2016

NL:
The New Year has begun, and after a 2015 that was considered reasonable by a number of Nintendo Life readers, the hope is that 2016 can be a blockbuster year for the company. Less 'not bad', and more 'holy moly that was amazing'.

The exciting thing is that it could go either way. This is going to be a 12 month period that brings new hardware into the light, see Nintendo launch new services and smartphone apps, and also hopefully deliver on one of the most anticipated experiences of this generation. Not only are delayed projects finally going to arrive, but the unexpected will also be part of the year's narrative.

NX is only going to fragment their user base.

N4g_null3425d ago

Like how android phones fragmented the android phone market? Like how apple fragmented their iPhone and iPad along with their digital music markets?

The truth is I like the nintendo handhelds but I'd rather have their consoles. If I didn't have to choose and could play on what I want at what ever price I wanted then that is a nintendo and consumer win.

They just combine a ton of studios. The are upgrading their tech. New account system coming on line. They could literally launch the best of nintendo and combine a segment the market and gain huge profit from a segment of concentrated effort.

They would create a new standard for console gaming. They might even integrate pc into it. Yes your pc can be a supplimental computing device.

When are people going to realize Zelda is not going to be on both systems they have already said that this is the most expensive game they have ever made and it was built on the Wii u they also said the NX is completely new starting from zero so obviously it will be completely different from the Wii u so they can't just port it over

Chocoburger70d ago

Wow, how could someone be so wrong. 🤣

TeamLeaptrade3425d ago

I'm really excited to see the NX revealed. I can't wait, 2016 is going to be huge for gaming.

Super Mario Galaxy 3 possible, but not before Nintendo's next console

Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto has spoken of the "opportunity" for a new Super Mario Galaxy game as the company's "hardware technology gets better and advances".

It has been nearly eight years since the launch of Super Mario Galaxy.

For many fans, the original Mario Galaxy and its sequel represent Nintendo at the peak of its 3D platforming powers. But it has now been five years without another Galaxy-style title.

"[A new Mario Galaxy] is always in discussion," Miyamoto told Eurogamer. "But even with Mario 64 there was a lot of feedback about motion sickness with the 3D or maybe us making it too difficult.

I've been hoping for a 64/Sunshine/Galaxy-style Mario game on the Wii U... but this doesn't look like the chances are good.

N4g_null3543d ago

Actually they are good. He stated it is only a work load issue. After they unite the platforms a lot of games will get made simply because they don't have to cut the developing force in half.

LonDonE3542d ago

Dont care what nintendo do with nx, they have lost me and everyone i know for abandoning wiiu and never truely supporting it!

Fed up of there b.s, will buy their platforms used with the handfull of games worth playing at the end of the generation.

AWBrawler3542d ago

Abandoned? We still have on the way Mario maker, star fox, xenoblade, yoshi's wooly world, shin megami tensei x fire emblem, Zelda u, and pokken tournament. If anything it's the 3rd party that abandoned it. Be mad at them.

MSBAUSTX3542d ago

@LON Abandoned? They have created or purchased more first party exclusive games for the Wii U than any other Nintendo system since the SNES! Plus they have like 6 more titles coming in the next 6 months! You are a true whiner. Get over it dude. Wii U isnt getting the next Battle Field or COD. But that hardly means Ninty has Abandoned it. Complain to Activision or Someone else for giving up on Ninty dude.

DiaperFace3543d ago

Yeah, this is a real downer. I still have hope for a Super Mario Sunshine HD, though.

2cents3543d ago

Me too...

I'd love another Super Mario Sunshine!

DragoonsScaleLegends3543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

If they make a Sunshine 2 I would get their next console no matter how bad it is. It seems there is no more hope for anything like this on my Wii U.

-Foxtrot3543d ago

It's a shame I was really looking out for the "Mario" game of this gen

N64 - Super Mario 64

Gamecube - Super Mario Sunshine

Wii - Super Mario Galaxy

Wii U - ????

DiaperFace3543d ago

It just goes to show Nintendo dropped the ball this generation in many ways. On the bright side, NX has so much potential to be the best system ever made that I can forgive them. I doubt they'll live up to it based on the Wii/Wii U but they might bring back those SNES days glory

freshslicepizza3543d ago

that's why their new system needs to launch with an all new mario game that isn't a side scroller. i think nintendo knows the wii u is pretty much dead and i wouldn't be surprised if the new zelda gets released on the new system too.

DragoonsScaleLegends3543d ago

NES - Super Mario Bros 3
SNES - Super Mario World
N64 - Super Mario 64
Gamecube - Super Mario Sunshine
Wii - Super Mario Galaxy
Wii U - Super Mario 3D World

I would say 3D World is the worst out of all of them but I haven't played Galaxy before so I don't know. But regardless 3D World is a good game just not as good or iconic as all the others.

-Foxtrot3543d ago

@drpepperdude

Super Mario World was not part of the Super Mario games that released each gen

Super Mario World was just an upgraded version of Super Mario Land released on the 3DS....just like how the Wii New Super Mario Brothers and New Super Mario Brothers U were console versions of the DS/3DS games.

I wouldn't count it as those other Super Mario games have always offered something new and a fresh take on the series. 3D platforming, FLuDD, Space etc

The 10th Rider3543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

I'm as disappointed as any Mario fan that we haven't gotten a 64/Sunshine/Galaxy esque Mario game this gen...But we HAVE gotten the stellar Super Mario 3D World and the quintessential 2D Super Mario Maker. Just because we haven't gotten the Mario game that you or I want doesn't mean we haven't gotten a solid Mario fix.

I still have my fingers crossed for one to come in the next year or year and a half...But, if not, we should see one early on in the next console's lifespan.

benji1013542d ago

Wii u - Super mario 3d world.

Just ignore they made that game.

Great interview, it seems miyamoto want more pooowwwwaaaaarrrrzzzzzz! Splatoon helping people like galaxies.... interesting.

People just wanted cool stuff. A 2tflop nx running unreal 4 would be really cool with your style of game play. One to two years from now gpus will be cheap. Pascal and volt will be out with double digit tflops.

I'm interested in this can play our games on tablet stuff. Would be very cool if Samsung put the wireless output streaming in their phones so we can use a new gamepad to play these phone games with real buttons and sticks in an integrated fashion.

filchron3542d ago

They need power but they need their OWN ENGINES. UE4 is crap. for god sakes look at how awesome NINTENDO'S OWN ART DEPT. was back in the 90's: http://www.superluigibros.c... http://www.hanging-waters.c... . Are you telling me UE4 would look cooler than an in house nintendo game that looked like THAT?!??

MSBAUSTX3542d ago

^^^^^Nintendo gospel being preached right here folks. Agreed. They dont need anyone elses engine. Just update the ones they have and poof. Masterpiece

N4g_null3542d ago (Edited 3542d ago )

It would be nice if we all could use nintendo engines to power indie games. Also I only brought up the unreal engine because it is known.

greenmiker3543d ago

Interesting Interview by Eurogamer. As for SMG 3, I hope its true because I liked 3D Mario before 3D World game, I always prefer an open world Mario game.

-Foxtrot3543d ago

I'm going to get hated for this but I'd rather see a new Mario concept, especailly since we havent had one this gen

If we were still with the Wii then sure, give us Super Mario Galaxy 3 but we've moved past the Wii now so we should have a brand new, fresh Mario game

Plus if there's one thing I didn't like about Galaxy is unlike Sunshine and 64 I felt like it wasn't as open, sure you had space to explore but it was like an illusion that it was so big but really you were just hopping around sphere shaped planets and most of the time you could not backtrack. If you missed something you would most likely have to start again if you went past that bit with a star cannon which wouldn't let you go back.

I really want to see a new Mario game with huge open levels to explore again

Hoffmann3543d ago

Open World Mario could be interesting

The 10th Rider3543d ago

I thought a lot about this...I think if it had "levels" like in Sunshine...But they were connected by multiple routes with things hidden in them it'd be a great way to make one. When a level required a special scenario, you talk to a character and it loads up the 'level' in the area. Things happen in the world as you collect more stars, similar to Sunshine. They could even put news headlines across the bottom of the screen, again like Sunshine, to let you know what was going on.

Honestly, if they ever make a Sunshine 2 I think that'd be a fantastic way to do it.

The 10th Rider3543d ago

I'm with you on this one Foxtrot.

I was really disappointed when they showed off 3D World, I was expecting to be blown away by something totally unique. It just looked generic. Now, of course, it's out and I know it's a fantastic game and everything, but it's not quite like the 64/Sunshine/Galaxy games and I really want to be surprised by what they give us next.

I remember seeing Galaxy for the first time and being absolutely blown away. I want to have that feeling when I see the next game.

On the openness of the games: I loved Galaxy 2, probably one of the most flawless games I've ever played, but I was sad that they went to a typical World structure like the 2d Mario games have. I really want to see a more open Mario game with loads of secrets in the levels and a giant hub to explore.

Feriku3542d ago

I agree. I usually stick Galaxy in the same category when describing them, but the system 64 and Sunshine used, with a hub world leading to large worlds to explore, is my favorite style.

The missing E3 2015 titles we desperately wanted to see

MyGaming: "This was the E3 that everyone has been waiting for.

The unveiling or previewing of monumental titles like Uncharted 4, Final Fantasy VII, Shenmue, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Star Wars: Battlefront were enough to revamp faith in an often lukewarm gaming climate and curb a lot of the cynicism manifesting amongst gamers.

There were some games that didn’t get the spotlight, however; games we desperately wanted to see. Here are some of the big boys we really wished were at this year’s E3."
