Is this game actually decent then or? I've seen journalist reviews but I haven't seen many people actually talking about it. Feels like it's just come and gone.

Yeah it’s alright. I’m not to fond of it.
A lot of YouTubers didn’t like it either but I can see it having a cult following.

It’s no way a terrible game. I wouldn’t buy it that’s for sure but if you have gamepass I would check it out. If you don’t have gamepass, I wouldn’t rush to subscribe just to play it, like I did with stalker 2. It can be added to your backlog. Your not missing much.

From what i've gathered it starts with great promise and then never actually delivers... some things in the game remain subpar and underdeveloped. Im playing it for free because MS loves giving people free access to their games. So far im enjoying it. Focusing on magic which is a 1st for me.

Playing it on gamepass, it feels like Elder Scroll Online, like a cheaper version of ES with less interactivity in the environment and attention to details. Its a shame because the game itself is kinda fun but its poorly built and feels lacking.

It's the definition of mid. It's a faux-open world game.

The entire game is just an illusion of depth. Cities and the people in it are jist window dressing.

They don't react to the player at all. It's like a TV stage set. Nothing is real.

Thing is, you won't notice how fake the world is until you try to interact with it.

If you just stay on the rails the devs set out for you, you can have fun with it.

It's DEFINITELY not an Elder Scrolls adjacent game it started out as. It seems unfinished.

Yeah I've been looking more online and the like after posting above and it seems great combat wise but it does look like a faux open world game. This illusion that it's more than it actually is to hide how unfinished it looks in most places. People saying it's the best RPG for a long time are seriously smoking something here as past RPG games from years ago are clearly better. For example I've seen towns where everyone just stays put and stand in one place, they don't go off and do their own things around the town, it looks lifeless.

I know people are getting annoyed it's being compared to Elder Scrolls, especially Skyrim which the devs said it's nothing like anyway but of course you're going to compare it to that when Obsidian made such a great Fallout spin off with New Vegas and something like The Outer Worlds gave us that space RPG game long before Starfield so obviously people wanted an Elder Scrolls like game or even just a spin off its self since Bethesda take ages to make these games now.

I really think Obsidian need to have a second team set up dedicated to Fallout and The Elder Scrolls spin offs while Bethesda makes the main numbered game. The last Elder Scrolls was in 2011 and the next one might not be until 2027 at the earliest, that's 16 years and Fallout 5 might not come out until 2031.

I'm trying to gather that too, but my best guess is that it's extremely mediocre? It seems to be doing okay-ish based on the Steam charts, not that I was going to play the game anyway, I wouldn't like it based on the trailers.

I've seen a lot of people compare it to Skyrim or Oblivion, but with fewer features than those games, I've also read that reviewers who got free review copies weren't allowed to show footage from the second half of the game. And supposedly the second half is where the game has the most issues.

So stories about a game's Steam player count seem to only matter if someone perceives that a game has an agenda or politics. Weird.

Journos/gamers will use whatever metric fits their worldview.

I'm talking about games in general. It's like the journos use whatever they want to confirm their biases.

Avowed and Veilguard most likely cost the same to make and advertise. The hype was similar.

But there's no mountain of stories blabbing about player count in Avowed... which was the point of your post. And I was agreeing with it because you brought up an interesting point.

I never had any interest in playing Avowed from watching several trailers. I usually know what's interesting to me when it comes to video games but some folks have said don't knock something before you try it, so I tried it for about 40 minutes & as expected it was boring. Not my cup of tea. If it's selling well, good for them but where are the numbers?

If they don't give out sales numbers, then why is that not mentioned by Circana in the post below for Black Ops 6?
There are no digital sale numbers for Nintendo games, but there's no mention of that for MS published games.

you played it for 40 minutes and decided it was not for you? Sheesh.. like you cant play an action rpg sandbox open world game and make your mind up if its good or not for you in 40 minutes.. or maybe you can.
I know i certainly cant, there are so many games i played for hours and just didn't enjoy, put it down and then came back to it months later and it just clicked and WHAM it ended up being one of my fave games.. example being Bayoneta.. hated it at first, played it twice and put it down thinking its not for me.. but one day i just played and learnt the intricate mechanics and it just clicked and now i am a lifelong fan of the franchise.

Gaming has so much more depth then 40 minutes dude.. most games dont even start until 1 or 2 hours in, meaning you barely learn to walk and the story before you actually begin to play and explore and find things you like and things you don't. I guess i am a gamer from a different age. The game is a great game, the combat is AWESOME and i really hope the next elder scrolls also implements similar action based combat, there is actually nuances involved and skill which you wont see on the surface but as you hone your build and decide what you want to commit to and begin to learn the weaknesses of each enemy type etc the combat really opens up. Lots of fun to be had and the exploration is fun too, the parkour and movement nails it. Seriously give it another try.. or dont. I guess maybe its just not for you.

That is you. Anytime I see a trailer for a game I already know if I'm interested in wanting to play that game. If I decide to try a game that I really have no interest in, that game should have peaked my interest within 30 mins like most games I've played or tried through a demo. How a game peaks your interest works for you & how a game peaks my interest works for me, the very reason we are all different individuals.

@Elda you're completely wasting your time asking for sales, since they haven't reported sales in over 10 years now and don't planning on switching back. @Kush so where are the sales then? How many did black ops 6 sold and Indy?

Circana track how well a game is doing VG is sales estimations. Xbox themselves don't report sales numbers. Again what are you talking about?

That vgchartz article is reporting Circana numbers. Notice how the N4G article is not a 'rumor'?
Cicana must have the sales numbers for Black Ops 6, or they wouldn't be able to report them.
If they didn't have the digital sales numbers, they would call it out, like they do with the Nintendo numbers.
Want a wager on what position Avowed will debut at in the next sales ranking?

As for the actual numbers, yeah, who knows. Famitsu provides numbers for Japan so Circana must be able to do the same otherwise it's fairly meaningless data.

6 hrs in and its a great game. Give it a chance, its everything that was great about the 360/ps3 era rpg's and nothing that's bad about the modern rpg.

I’m absolutely loving Avowed. I’m 22 hours in, most of it being on my SteamDeck, and I’m barely scratching the surface of the massive world. It’s gorgeous and the dialogue and lore are excellent. Happy to have paid full launch price to support the devs.

Isn't that what EA said about Veilguard before then not deciding to do any DLC for the game and then deciding to shut down the team and studio within BioWare that made Veilguard

Anyway I've not played it yet I really loved Outer Worlds but everything I've seen for this game so far as in the official gameplay videos and stuff just hasn't really impressed me

I was kind of hoping that after Outer Worlds we'd see Obsidian really improve on their next game but then again Outer Worlds 2 is still in full on development so maybe their core team is working on that and that is why Avowed looks like a game by a new development team rather than the experienced team that made Outer Worlds

We also don't really know much about Avowed development if it was indeed done by a smaller team on a smaller budget then it could well have been quite the financial success. I might try it eventually on sale but my excitement still remains on Outer Worlds 2
