It looks as if they haven't really upgraded the graphics to me? Was expecting a big upgrade, doesn't seem all that colourful either, ah well

RaidenBlack343d ago (Edited 343d ago )

"Dark Ages" hence the colour palette.
And still using idtech 7, similar to Indiana Jones and Eternal (but might feature RT like Eternal's PS5/XSX version).
id started developing idtech 8 about a year ago (from job profiles) ... might launch with the rumoured Quake Reboot.

just_looken342d ago

0 clue what this was made off of being a xbox event it could have been on a series s.

Remember these mad lads got there last game running on a switch.

So compare the switch graphics of eternal to maxed out pc

If this is the series s the lowest powered console then imagine maxed out pc hence my switch comparison.

RaidenBlack342d ago

idtech has been one of the most optimized engines out there (except idtech 5, which was a bit experimental)
Used to be one of the most engine during the 90s ... UE 1 was created to compete directly against idtech 2/3 supremacy and was available for other developers/studios to use. But they changed the licensing policy since idtech 5 and the engine is now limited to Zenimax studios.

just_looken342d ago (Edited 342d ago )

@raiden

And now everyone uses bloated unoptimized unreal engine because of the ai that can do alot of the work with button clicks.

We need more games not using unreeal.

Loved how they conveniently left out the PS5 part in the show…

maniacmayhem343d ago

...Probably because it's an Xbox show...

-Foxtrot343d ago

If it's an Xbox show then you must know it's going to be Xbox and PC so why show platforms at all going by that logic.

To actually remove the logo is just Microsoft trying to confuse people by giving off the impression it's an exclusive.

Especially when social media pages show the same trailer and platformer part with the PS5 added back in.

Tacoboto343d ago

Because Microsoft sells it themselves on PC.
You're not seeing the Steam logo in the showcase.

Tacoboto343d ago

What does that have to do with the game itself?

RaidenBlack343d ago (Edited 343d ago )

Because this whole website revolves around PS majorly.
Its more N4PSG than damn N4G.

just_looken342d ago

The current main admin is so pro sony he supports other uber fan's like raiden said there is alot of sony loyal ponies here.

Based on the last game this one should also be awesome the optimization last time was god tier.

"To actually remove the logo is just Microsoft trying to confuse people by giving off the impression it's an exclusive."

I'm wondering if this is your first platform game show...but I'm absolutely positive you've been on this site longer than even I have. So to even say this is so absurd it's actually hilarious.

I'm wondering if you left a similar comment during the PlayStation showing when they only have their logos for third party games?

just_looken342d ago

Sony had to recently remove 8k from there boxes to avoid a lawsuit

But when sony confuse/lies its a meh or defense right away from fans

If xbox does it oh boy watch out ha ha

I agree maniacmayhem this is nothing new in the end all these games from xbox studios even gears will be on pc with a good chance on ps5.

PhillyDonJawn343d ago

You been a gamer long enough to know better.

"Loved how they conveniently left out the PS5 part in the show…"

Can't take you seriously after this comment.

"If it's an Xbox show then you must know it's going to be Xbox and PC so why show platforms at all going by that logic."

Lol, it gets better! Yes, you're right, it's good business sense to advertise for your main business rival during your own main showcase for the year!

just_looken342d ago

To be fair microsoft could buy sony and absorb that cost with in a year so more like annoying fly.

KwietStorm_BLM343d ago

You have never seen 'Xbox' on a multiplatform game at a PlayStation event or even on a PlayStation YouTube video, because.. it's a PlayStation event or a PlayStation YouTube video. Make some sense. Even fully third party games don't say PlayStation at an Xbox event. This isn't even anything new. Just something else irrelevant to complain about.

Sonic1881343d ago (Edited 343d ago )

I noticed that as well. Many of the games shown (except for Microsoft first party studios) also coming to PS5 but Microsoft had to leave that out since it was a Microsoft showcase. But all the games that's develop from Microsoft first party studios should remain exclusive to stay competitive . I can't say the same thing about Bethesda games though. I truly believe they will end up going to Playstation like doom and hifi rush eventually

Profchaos343d ago (Edited 343d ago )

I'm just thankful it's officially coming to PlayStation after all it was not garunteed.

PlayStation only included PS in their version of the trailer to so it's not surprising common practice

Might be great, but I hope it won't have as many annoying platforming stage elements as Doom Eternal.

Fishy Fingers343d ago

Well, thats the best thing to come out of the summer game fest so far.

Combat feels faster than Eternal at times

DefenderOfDoom21d 4h ago

From the reviews I watched so for , they said Doom the Dark Ages is slower than Eternal but Doom Dark Ages is still a lot faster then most of FPS games today.

Doom: The Dark Ages Launches to a Peak of 30k Concurrent Users

I guess that means the game is trash?

PRIMORDUS2d ago

No it's good but for $70 and Denuvo DRM on PC hard pass.

pwnmaster30001d 23h ago

Don’t matter, if it’s not hitting 100k+ it’s considered trash and a failure.
That’s the new standard apparently

Levii_921d 11h ago

The game is awesome and EPIC, way more epic than the previous ones. The soundtrack is a heavy metal banger as well but yeah its clear why it’s struggling and i hope it’s going to be a lesson for Bethesda and for others greedy companies.

Be like more like Sandfall Interactive and Expedition 33 and your game will sell.

This game just didn't excite me like the last 2. I'm passing on it this time.

JEECE1d 23h ago

Spin off vibe without the spin off price.

LucasRuinedChildhood2d ago

Could be affected by:
- A percentage of people will play this on GamePass which the last 2 games did not launch on.
- A percentage of players bought the Deluxe Edition which included early access, reducing the peak as players will start playing it on different days.

PRIMORDUS2d ago

Price most likely the issue, and while most don't know or care about Denuvo on PC, if you lower the price I'm sure it will sell more on all platforms.

VersusDMC1d 23h ago

Well Clair obscure had the same situation(gamepass) and had a concurrent high of 150k and currently at 50k.

LucasRuinedChildhood1d 20h ago (Edited 1d 20h ago )

Sure, but those numbers are higher than previous Doom games' peak on Steam as well.
- Doom 2016 (44,269)
- Doom: Eternal (104,891)

It seems like the peak would at least as high as Doom 2016.

Bit confused on one thing. That graph only starts from May 15. They don't seem to have been able to capture data for the early access players who started playing days before that.

LucasRuinedChildhood1d 20h ago

So basically, I'm talking about relative to the peak numbers of the prior games.

I'm not saying that a game that released on GamePass cannot have high numbers on Steam. But the effect isn't 0%. And Early Access also affects the peak.
