This is the first time that Sony's Playstation Brand has actually priced me out of something. This thing costs 50.00 more than a PS5, which is extremely difficult to get in the first place.

So it's a tethered system with a very small library and an extraordinarily high price point (especially for a console product), and they expect this to compete with something like the Quest? This needed to be 400 or less. And they clearly cancelled the VR2 centered presentation that should've been used to kick off the hype train. And for what? So Jim could spend time traipsing around the world begging different countries to stop the Activision/MS deal? Shooting your flagship VR product in the head so you can keep COD? Bloody hell, lads.

I understand the tech in this thing is great, but man they had a chance to undercut Quest 2 and make VR more of a mainstream thing. The Sony brand is strong and if anyone could get VR in more homes it could have been Sony, but they blew it in my opinion...1k+ to play VR, with only 2 handful of stellar games..pass.

The specs of the PSVR2 are amazing so I think the price is justified. Only the quest 2 is cheaper, but comes with a ton of downsides for it. PSVR2 should instead be compared to high-end PC headsets. Best comparison would be the HP Reverb G2 which costs 649€
That said I really wish it comes with plug-and-play support for PC. On PC the pricing would crush the competition.
Playstation alone can't make high-end VR mainstream IMO. Being compatible with PC could lead to more VR development which Sony would also benefit from.
Also while I think the price is justified, spending more than the PS5 itself I should be able to use the headset however I want. Otherwise it is 600€ for a peripheral instead of 600€ for a high-end VR headset.

very much on the fence. I'll probably snag a preorder when they go live as a backup, but I don't know if I can justify that price when it's not Backwards Compatible and will only have a handful of games available at launch. At more than a PS5 itself it's a hard sell.

Gosh no wonder they refused to announce the price so long. In gaming, no news is bad news. If devs won't specifically say it's current-gen only, that probably means the game will be cross-gen. If devs won't say a game is 60 fps, it's probably 30 fps. And if a publisher won't announce a price, it's probably going to be too high.

Dope . You have to pay decent money for high end tech . It’s cheaper than my stereo receiver by 500$ or so and those are everywhere and stereo tech is really old . 549$ isn’t cheap but making those headsets aren’t cheap . Making technology is more expensive than ever .

You can get (1) PSVR2 , (1) PS5 and 8+ games for the price of one Nvidia 4090 Graphics card.

The price isn’t really the problem for me as I excepted a price between €500-€600 but it’s the lack of games at the moment, that’s put me of, I know that most PSVR titles are being updated for compatibility but it will take time so I’ll wait.

They may end up selling it with no controllers because people are so cheap these days . 400$ no controllers 149 $ for a pair of controllers . The old PSVR was 400 with no controllers . It’s waaaay better tech and waaaay better controllers and people are surprised . This isn’t expensive at all in my opinion . It’s a good price for what you are getting

I would've loved seeing this as a price that's attractive to everyone (399$), to keep the good trend PSVR did before it.

Ahhh been thinking about it for a hour. My plan was to sell my quest 2 for this originally. I may just do it. Have to remember this has 4k screens and other hight tech stuff. So I think I'll bite the bullet.

I’ll pass. If it were a standalone console the price would make sense but if you need a PS5 to play it the price shouldn’t be higher than the console. Now the thing with it not being backwards compatible is really going to stick out.

Guess I was right when I said last year that the PSVR2 price launch would be similar to the original PSVR.
This shouldn't surprise anyone since Sony seems to want the PSVR headset to be profitable on day 1 and wants to establish a premium VR experience versus Meta.

Now the question is aside from hardcore VR users(me for one) can Sony persuade customers to purchase a PSVR2 when there are more established and cheaper solutions around (Pico4 and Quest2)?

I see a lot of people not just here but in other outlets complaining about the price. Yet they happily spend $1200 on a new phone, $500 on a new watch, $900 on an iPad, $1200 on a laptop, $800 on a graphics card, $100 per month on skins and battle packs. So give this tech a brake. It's not that expensive when you compare it with other entertainment tech.

Sounds like a decent value if you factor in the tech behind it. And I imagine it will have BC titles to play until something next-gen arrives. I’ll have to look up what games it haves available for launch before I decide if it’s a day 1 or not though.

Dreams port or bust. For us that enjoy VR, we already have a set in addition to Xbox/PS5/Switch. My worry is this is too lttp and will absolutely NEED amazing first party support to take off. Sony better bring the games, bc all the great ports have likely already been played elsewhere by their target audience.

PSVR1 launched 6 years ago pre-inflation WITHOUT PS Move controllers for $399, same price as PS4.

This time, top tier hardware (except not wireless, which I don't mine as I don't want to strap battery pack on my head), with 2 controllers with adaptive triggers, for slightly more than the console. Seems reasonable to me.

About in line with what I thought and explains the price increase for the PS5. Makes this seem not so bad. I'll hold off on this for a bit until I see some used ones. I'm already set with VR on PC.

Edit: Those complaining about the price. From what the specs appear to be, this looks to be a set that competes with the Valve Index.

I would love to buy it but the price is already steep and they said it's not backwards compatible with previous psvr games so that already took me off of buying since I was holding off on some games waiting to upgrade .

At $550usd at the current currency exchange rate that would put it at $938nzd and for a comparison the rrp for the PS5 is $819 NZD but most are going for $999nzd and the Xbox Series x is $799nzd so it will be interesting to see how well it does here in New Zealand

The price is fine! The first PSVR cost $399, but only the HELMET ITSELF was in the package. The player had to buy the camera and the move controllers separately. This costs $549, but the controllers are in the package, and nothing else is needed.

People are right saying it’s high end stuff and price is justified, just for whatever reason I didn’t think it would be that much.

Pretty gutted tbh, there’s no way my wife will green light this.

But then for me personally I’m not sure I can justify spending that much, I don’t think I’ll get £500 worth of play from it. It’s rare VR games come around that offer the kind of experience I’d really want for that price.

I'm assuming they never confirmed PC compat? For that price it would be much more enticing if it worked on something other than the PS5. And with them confirming that games for their first PSVR aren't compatible at all, it gonna be hard to sell this.
