Ubisoft exclusive: Ghost Recon Wildlands a big change for open-worlds in gaming

Open-world games are something Ubisoft does quite well, but for the developers at Ubisoft Paris, Ghost Recon Wildlands isn't just about tossing on an general open-world skin and calling it good. This game marks a real change for the series, publisher and industry.

I can't wait release this game already.

RuleNumber53543d ago

Same! I just hope it doesn't have as many delays as something like The Division has had.

scark923543d ago

Oh yes, I cannot wait to see more!

I hope it is different to what we seen in The Division.

kraenk123543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

It definitely looks amazing....and then you realise it's a Ubisoft game and suddenly all hopes are diminished, because the final game will look nothing like that gorgeous trailer.

JamesBroski3543d ago

Seriously, the best thing Ubisoft can do is stfu about their games and stop hyping them; they never deliver.

kraenk123543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

Never is clearly exaggerated but it's sadly more like 50:50.

Paytaa3543d ago

This should have just been a new IP just called Wildlands. It looks pretty cool but it isn't Ghost Recon. Hopefully this isn't downgraded like almost every Ubisoft game thus far into this gen.

Ubisoft Paris employees are going on strike to protest CEO's 'catastrophic' comments

The union representing studio workers says Yves Guillemot is trying to blame employees for his own failures.

porkChop889d ago

Good. Yves is the problem. Ubisoft has been struggling for many years and they just keep getting worse. Why? Because Yves keeps doubling down on bad practices. Their situation can't get better because he won't allow it too. Then he sits there and cries when someone tries to do a hostile takeover. If you didn't want to risk being bought out you shouldn't have taken the company public.

S2Killinit888d ago

This is reminiscent of the type of news out of Activision prior to the announcement that MS is going to buy it. I maybe wrong, but I wonder who is buying Ubisoft. It seems like this is a roadmap to mergers & acquisitions of large publishers. Lol

Get ready boys and girls here comes the next merger. All the industry is going to carved up within the next couple of years.

Flawlessmic888d ago

Ubisoft is more of a mess than acti is or was, higher risk to as they don't have guaranteed money makers like cod, CC, Wow.

Hope sony doesnt bother wasting there money on ubisoft, there games suck now anyway, the only thing they have coming of interest is the splinter cell remake, and going of the prince of persia remake we saw my hopes arent high.

If someone does buy them it will be tencent or MS they both got cash to burn.

S2Killinit888d ago (Edited 888d ago )

Publishers are more than the sum of their ips. Ubisoft are one of the few remaining large publishers left, Im not saying buying them is good or bad business, Im just saying it seems there are signs that Ubisoft is airing out their dirty laundry in public the same way Activision did prior to the announcement that they were being bought up.

Its the same thing football clubs do when they go the route of being purchased, first they start doing badly, the fans get upset, stock prices fall, that way people/shareholders dont complain when the company gets taken over.

I doubt MS will be rushing headlong into any other large acquisitions. They have their hands full with this one and at that point the bad press for what they are doing would reach boiling point. Sony has the cash, but I doubt its them, they dont need it. Google, or Apple are the likely contenders imo.

Good for them! Management should not be allowed to push all the blame onto people that literally just do as they're told. Management is what is killing Ubisoft, so Management should take responsibility for it.

Nineball2112888d ago

They are going on strike for 4 hours? That'll show 'em!

"... is calling on the employees of Ubisoft Paris to go on strike on Friday 27 January in the afternoon, from 2 to 6 pm."

deleted888d ago (Edited 888d ago )

"We are taking extended lunch breaks today in protest! Tomorrow we shall park in all of the handicapped spaces! Vive la révolution!!"

SullysCigar888d ago

"We've had ENOUGH! We're boycotting the lift and taking the stairs. You will lose 5 minutes per FTE per day until we see CHANGE, DAMMIT!"

RaiderNation888d ago (Edited 888d ago )

They can eat sh_t as far as Im concerned. Ubisoft has been garbage for a while now. I dont care about all the politics. I just want great games and Ubisoft has been lacking in that area for far too long.

-Foxtrot888d ago

And these are the guys who brought the guillotine to the mainstream

SullysCigar888d ago

Could they set some up in Davos during their protest?

hotnickles888d ago

LMAO. Going on strike while your company is hanging by a thread. Smart move…

crazyCoconuts888d ago

Yeah should be easier picking out who gets hit in the first round of layoffs... If you don't want to work here...

hotnickles888d ago

Collective bargaining doesn’t work when you follow the dumb one lol.

crazyCoconuts888d ago

@sadraiden with any luck I wouldn't have hired you in the first place

tablav888d ago

I mean, going on strike is how you get management to take your concerns seriously. It's not ideal, but fighting for workers rights is the whole point of the unions suggesting this action.

I think the bigger issue is that their 'demands' (already not a great way to start negotiation) are a 4 day working week and an immediate 10% bump in pay...so, more money for less work. If Ubisoft is really struggling that much (as reinforced by their lack of output and repeatedly cancelled/delayed projects) then you're not likely to get both of these things.

I would hope that Ubisoft are taking this very seriously, as they have a lot of promising and under-utilised IP. Maybe if they just make games people like rather than constantly trying to jump on the latest bandwagon, they wouldn't be struggling financially.

sadraiden888d ago

In negotiations, you don't open with what you're comfortable taking. You open high, and negotiate down to the middle.

hotnickles888d ago

I would close the studio in France and invest that money in other studios.

sadraiden888d ago

Fuego take. Here's another: why would you want to continue to work for an abusive company where you're forced to shit out terrible games?

hotnickles888d ago

I wouldn’t go on strike I would quit.

crazyCoconuts888d ago

Exactly. If you're good at what you do, you should be able to find another job so do it.
If you aren't good or can't find another job, be happy you're employed.

Adrian_v01886d ago

I'll never understand people who don't support worker rights. How brainwashed can one get?

hotnickles886d ago

I do understand people who call every dumb idea “workers rights” and then chastise other people for not supporting the dumb ideas. I know exactly why they do this.

People can get extremely brainwashed and it’s easy to do. No opinion you have is your own. Your opinions were given to you by one person or a combination of people. All of us, not just “you”.

This should hold everyone off until the next big release. I love me some reward points! [sarcasm]

Gamepass has changed everything. Phil, from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for Gamepass. I just bought 50 years worth of subscription and I'm so happy.

CBaoth963d ago

Riiight! Thanks to GP I've discovered hundreds of indie fillers I would've never known about otherwise. Best part: team Xbox has discovered how great walking sims and interactive movies really are! And EA Play? Love me some 4 year old sports games!! Why sub up though? Just let MS auto renew that incredible $14.99 a month value. It's so easy!!

JBplusVB963d ago

Gamepass is just so amazing. Adding EA play to it brought the service to a whole nother level. Phil Spencer has the brightest mind in gaming. By far.....
