Nintendo is stubborn. Prepare for a slightly more powerful console, a new gimmich, and it will retail for $400 launching without most of the best 1st party franchises, and shoddy ports of 360 games.

Enjoy.

porkChop3512d ago

All they need to do is release a $300 console with the best hardware they can realistically get, give it at least 8GB of RAM to ensure multiplatform compatibility, and give the console a traditional controller with a fresh design.

I don't want any gimmicks. I don't want old/slow hardware that holds back the game. I just want a normal controller with decent hardware so I can enjoy Nintendo's games at their full potential with as little limitations as possible.

I think $299 is the max they can ask for considering the GC failed (though it was a solid console with great exclusives), Wii going full casual burned gamers, and now the Wii U being another failed console (with some good exclusives).

That's 3 gens in a row of core gamer struggle with Nintendo, and they have a lot of issues they need to right before non-Nintendo fans take them serious again.

A $249 console is a much easier sell, and it's what they need to make sure their console cost less than XBO / PS4, but is still in the same playing field.

CPU: They need to go with the exact same CPU as PS4 and XBO (Dual A8 4555m), to make ports as easy as possible, and give them some form of 3rd party support due to the simplicity of porting between all platforms.

GPU: They can go anywhere from 1 TFLOP - 2 TFOPS and be okay. But considering price needs to be as low as possible, they're better off aiming closer to the lesser. No one wants to hear that, but technology doesn't sell Nintendo, and simply being good enough to get un-compromised ports is all Nintendo really needs to aim for here since their exclusives games are much more about artstyle. The R9 M380 seems like the best bet. It has 1.38 TFLOPS of performance at a decent clock of 900 MHz (PS4 / XBO are 800 / 853). This would put it right on par with XBO.

RAM: Actually here's one of the areas Nintendo can skimp on to save money can hit $249. 6GB of RAM (2GB OS / 4GB games) is more than enough, because Nintendo's OS don't require tons of like PS and XB, so 2GB DDR3 dedicated to OS, and 4GB GDDR5 dedicated to GPU is a completely acceptable amount especially considering PS4 and XBO have between 4.5 - 5.5 GB for games, so NX won't be missing out on much.

HDD: Another place where NX saves. Simply don't have one like the Wii U. 32GB internal flash for the OS and other little files and be done with it (although 64GB has gotten much cheaper).

In 2016 XBO should be $299. With savings on RAM and HDD NX should be able to hit $249 and come out competitive price was, which is one of the obstacles in it's way to being a successful CORE Nintendo console.

Next up is games (1st and 3rd party), services (online / amiibo / etc...), and direction (Nintendo crop.). If those 3 areas are also addressed and improved by great strides then NX should cross the 50m mark easy (something a core Nintendo consoles hasn't done SNES).

@PorkChop well said

In my opinion bring back the Gamecube controller, online functionality of the Xbox and solid titles.

Note I passed on WiiU which I regret but patiently waiting on NX. New solid titles and remasters of their current hits plus a solid lineup of third party should do the trick.

freshslicepizza3512d ago

not going to happen porkchop, it will indeed have some unique feature because that is really the only way nintendo operates. they make games customized for their hardware so that they can continue to bring out well known franchises but play them in a new way. nintendo does not see games like mario with better graphics to be a reason to bring out new hardware. they want to innovate with new gameplay features. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

when you look at it the ps4 and xbox one are just more powerful ps3 and xbox 360's. playstation vr and hololens are two new mechanics coming but each company is non-committal about them because they are just afterthoughts. peripherals. they want to see if it catches on or not first. microsoft made a huge mistake with kinect on the xbox one and nintendo did as well with the wii u and the gamepad but they struck gold ith the original wii and motion controls.

does the market really need 3 consoles all delivering the same mechanics and the same games with only exclusives setting them apart? this is why i think it is in nintendo's best interest to keep trying to be different.

fatneal3512d ago

i disagree....the wiiU gamepad needs to be remodeled and released again. i cant imagine gaming without it atleast being an option from here on. nintendo doesnt have to make it powerful but considering nx is releasing about 4-5 years after wii U it should to be about as strong as xb1. the most important thing nintendo needs to do is make the M rated games that 3rd party would otherwise release on their console...once they do that and nintendo supporters show with sales numbers that 3rd party will make money 3rd party will comeback. 3rd party coming has very little to do with power of the console. and one thing thats clear with wiiU its probably the most under-appreciated console of all time. devs really missed a opportunity to do special things with the wiiU hardware.

right wish recent talk about
-Dragon Quest X and XI
-Final Fantasy XIV possibility if Nintendo talk to SE
-Spike Chunsoft already want to develop for it
-Nintendo already saying next 3D Mario and Metroid for NX if they ere to start developing recently

Let's say these are confirmed somewhere around the end of 2016 for launch games for 2017 Nov release.

3D Super Mario
Metroid game
Dragon Quest X
Dragon Quest XI
Final Fantasy XIV
Spike Chunsoft game
------------------------

Not only that Miyamoto isn't apart of the system development. Meaning nothing Nintendo like controller.

Also the system will not be more than $400. Since they aren't creating something like the Gamepad which was very expensive to make.

And they said they were started from scratch meaning. Everything with the Wii and Wii U as far as design will not be used.

----------------------------- ------------------------
Third Party support need to be Japanese focus.

The western third party can stay put.

Bring those 3DS third party over Nintendo.

i love nintendo i love their games, i grew up with them, i wish the NX turns out to be a huge success BUT

i see the chances of NX succeeding are bleak, Nintendo is stuck between a rock and a hard place

if they made it a traditional powerful systemlike ps4 and xbox one it would be too little, too late and won't have a chance to compete, the market cannot hold a 3rd identical system, heck the xbox one is having ahard time competeing with the ps4 in a two way console race

plus i can't see the non nintendo gamer jumping from PSN, XBL or steam to a nintendo console

the other scenario is if they made it a system with a gimmick to the casual gamer like the wii, it would fail too because the casual gamer is not there, they moved to mobile gaming

i don't know what the heck is nintendo gonna do to succeed??

any ideas gentlemen

1. Price $249 (worked extremely well for Wii)

2. Hardware specs on par with XBO (""""8-cor e Jaguar CPU""""&am p;qu ot; + 1.3 TFLOP GPU + 2GB DDR3 System RAM + 4GB GDDR5 VRAM + 32GB / 64GB storage).

3. Exclusives: 3D Mario, 2D Mario, Smash, Zelda, Kart, Party are all expected. From there it's time for sequels, refresher IP, and new IP.

Pokemon MMO, Pokemon Snap 2, Pokemon Stadium 3, Splatoon 2, 3D Metorid, F-Zero, Captain Falcon Beat'em up (like streets of Rage / Battletoads / Double Dragon), Kid Icarus Action-Adventure, Earthbound, Super Marion RPG 2, Star Fox (Mass Effect like w. Cameo's from Samus and Captain Falcon), Diddy Kong Racing, Zelda Wii U Remastered, Pokken Tournament Remastered, Excite Truck 2, Wave Race, Luigi’s Mansion 3, Mario Maker 2, Old artstyle Zelda Dungeon Maker, and so much more and this is just first party.

4. 3rd party support / parity / and 3rd party properties to buy/have exclusively. Having a similar architecture to PS4 / XBO means easy 3rd party support.....as long as software sells are there. 3rd party parity is another issue. In JP they're golden. NX should be getting games like Dragon Quest, Resident Evil 7, and more day and date with the other 2 consoles. Something it's been missing for 2 gens now. The west; however, is going to be a complete uphill battle, with Ubisoft and Activision more than likely being the only two big developers willing to give things a try as everyone else will be burned out still from N64, GC, Wii, and now Wii U 3rd party software sells.

Sonic, Beyond Good and Evil, Turok, Cruis’n the World, Zombies Ate my Neighbors, Chrono Trigger, Breath of Fire, Final Fight, Streets of Rage, Double Dragon, Earhtworm Jim, Shinobi, Contra, Megaman, Custom Robo, Viewtiful Joe 3, Just Dance, Rayman Exclusive, Platinum Games, Guitar Hero (MarioMix), Monkey Ball, SSX Tricky 2, Eternal Darknes 2, NBA Jamz (Space Jam DLC), MME Wrestling, Ready to Rumble Boxing, Super Tecmo Bowl, Vigilante 8, Clay Fighters, Primal Rage, Samurai Shodown,

4. Fans have to buy these games. Stop looking for Nintendo only titles, and support the other exclusives, and 3rd party games that come out, or support will dry up again, and NX will likely be the last Nintendo home console if it fails.

5. Services (big improvements need to be made here). Online, Amiibo support and more uses across the entire console not just games, better multimedia apps besides the BARE necessities, MiiVerse 2.0, a new OS.

6. Nintendo Corp. It's time to get new and talented people to lead Nintendo into 2016, and people who are willing to make these deals and get the games, support, and services it needs to be successful.

7. Backwards compatibility would be nice. Dolphin emulator is running on Android, so emulation of GameCube and Wii shouldn't be a problem, and considering Wii U's CPU isn't cream of the crop either, it's still possible to do emulation for Wii U as well, even with x86 instead of PowerPC, even more so than Xbox 360 on XBO.

That's how you turn around a 15m selling console (Wii U 2016), into an easy 60m selling console. They have their work cut out for them, but if they attempt even half of chance at each of these areas across the board then it's going to be a success.

Locknuts3512d ago

I am a pretty big Nintendo fan but I just can't see me buying another Nintendo console. They just can't support their consoles enough these days.

FlyingFoxy3512d ago

The only thing that would interest me at this point is a 3DS successor, i may get it if it's priced well and has better controls like actual thumbsticks this time.

GordonKnight3511d ago

I've gotten want I wanted out of my Wii U. They have supported it enough. IMO They could've done more, but 20 games with high quality is enough to purchase the Wii U. The gamepad is the way to indies games. How I wish I could play all my free indie games from PS+ & GWG on the gamepad.

Locknuts3511d ago

I do like the gamepad for indies but I feel I haven't got the 3D Mario, Metroid or Paper Mario games I wanted.

killbillvolume123512d ago

I really hope the NX is a success only for competition sake. Companies need competition or they end up like wwe. I really hope its backwards compat with the wiiu. I also hope they hit it out of the park and maybe do somehting so unexpected like release all the old mario kart games on their store but add online multiplayer. Can you imagine how fun it would be to play mario kart 64 online arghhh. Of course it will never happen but one can dream.

Ck1x3512d ago

I love it that everyone seems to know exactly what it takes to make a console extremely successful, even though going by most people's notes on hardware. The PS4 is the first system of its kind that has taken the dominant console spot and is currently the most powerful. I mean people act like this has always been the recipe for success when history has shown that it hasn't been...

The 10 Biggest Nintendo Direct Moments of the Switch Generation

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Last week Nintendo held this year's surprisingly packed not-E3 Direct; with a full schedule for this year and a vague promise of a console successor next year, it's very possible that we've now seen our final Nintendo Switch Direct, or at least one with major first party reveals. That makes this a good time to sit back and reflect on a generation of Direct moments, from the shocking and surprising, to the joyous and exhilarating - and, quite often, all at once."

Although the following games offer different strategic experiences and force gamers to consider different elements, their core aspects remain similar. And no matter what you decided to play, you were guaranteed a mental workout."

WayTooManyGames' Top 20 Best Games of 2023

WTMG's Leo Faria: "Ah, 2023. You were a chaotic year in terms of wars, climate change, politics, and other bad news, but when it came to gaming, yet again, despite all odds, you were still able to deliver. Even though games got delayed, Nintendo Switch ports got sent out in the wild running at 10 frames a second, companies got shut down, and publishers tried to come up with new ways to make us fear for the future of the industry, a barrage of great games kept being released at a delightful pace all throughout 2023."

Interesting list. Glad it isn't AAA driven.
