A look at some of the things that Nintendo has to get right to ensure the success of their newest system.
VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Last week Nintendo held this year's surprisingly packed not-E3 Direct; with a full schedule for this year and a vague promise of a console successor next year, it's very possible that we've now seen our final Nintendo Switch Direct, or at least one with major first party reveals. That makes this a good time to sit back and reflect on a generation of Direct moments, from the shocking and surprising, to the joyous and exhilarating - and, quite often, all at once."
VGChartz's Chinh Tran: "As demonstrated by our finalists, strategy gamers had a lot of variety in where they would spend their time executing meticulous moves and mulling over decisions. Although the following games offer different strategic experiences and force gamers to consider different elements, their core aspects remain similar. And no matter what you decided to play, you were guaranteed a mental workout."
WTMG's Leo Faria: "Ah, 2023. You were a chaotic year in terms of wars, climate change, politics, and other bad news, but when it came to gaming, yet again, despite all odds, you were still able to deliver. Even though games got delayed, Nintendo Switch ports got sent out in the wild running at 10 frames a second, companies got shut down, and publishers tried to come up with new ways to make us fear for the future of the industry, a barrage of great games kept being released at a delightful pace all throughout 2023."
Nintendo is stubborn. Prepare for a slightly more powerful console, a new gimmich, and it will retail for $400 launching without most of the best 1st party franchises, and shoddy ports of 360 games.
Enjoy.
i love nintendo i love their games, i grew up with them, i wish the NX turns out to be a huge success BUT
i see the chances of NX succeeding are bleak, Nintendo is stuck between a rock and a hard place
if they made it a traditional powerful systemlike ps4 and xbox one it would be too little, too late and won't have a chance to compete, the market cannot hold a 3rd identical system, heck the xbox one is having ahard time competeing with the ps4 in a two way console race
plus i can't see the non nintendo gamer jumping from PSN, XBL or steam to a nintendo console
the other scenario is if they made it a system with a gimmick to the casual gamer like the wii, it would fail too because the casual gamer is not there, they moved to mobile gaming
i don't know what the heck is nintendo gonna do to succeed??
any ideas gentlemen
I am a pretty big Nintendo fan but I just can't see me buying another Nintendo console. They just can't support their consoles enough these days.
I really hope the NX is a success only for competition sake. Companies need competition or they end up like wwe. I really hope its backwards compat with the wiiu. I also hope they hit it out of the park and maybe do somehting so unexpected like release all the old mario kart games on their store but add online multiplayer. Can you imagine how fun it would be to play mario kart 64 online arghhh. Of course it will never happen but one can dream.
I love it that everyone seems to know exactly what it takes to make a console extremely successful, even though going by most people's notes on hardware. The PS4 is the first system of its kind that has taken the dominant console spot and is currently the most powerful. I mean people act like this has always been the recipe for success when history has shown that it hasn't been...
